Driving to Aspen

Driving to Aspen, Colorado is a great way to view the Rocky Mountains as well as acclimatize to the altitude.  Driving from Denver you’ll take I-70 west, which can be taken to Glenwood Springs and then HWY 82 East to Aspen.

In the late spring, summer & early fall you can also come through Leadville/Twin Lakes and HWY 82 West over Independence Pass and into Aspen. When it is open Independence pass over the continental divide is one of the most scenic mountain drives in Colorado.  This route over Independence Pass is closed in the winter so there is only the  one option of driving to Aspen from Glenwood Springs.   Visit C-DOT from road closure information.
